New Dads & Partners: How Your Involvement Matters

During pregnancy, attention often focuses on the birth parent, but new dads and partners play a crucial role. Research shows that involved fathers reduce premature births and infant mortality rates. Mothers-to-be with supportive partners receive better prenatal care and are more likely to quit smoking.

Preparing for Baby's Arrival Dads and partners can take an active role by touring the hospital, choosing a pediatrician, helping with the birth plan, and attending classes.

Skin-to-Skin or "Kangaroo" Care Fathers and partners can engage in skin-to-skin contact immediately after birth, which helps calm the baby and promotes bonding.

Breastfeeding & Nighttime Care While not breastfeeding directly, fathers can support by helping with positioning, diaper changes, and ensuring the baby is safe.

Postpartum Depression Fathers should watch for signs of postpartum depression in themselves and their partners and seek help if needed.

Parental Leave Taking time off can help establish a strong foundation for the baby's health and development. Fathers should ask about paternity leave policies at work.

Playing with Your Baby Involved fathers encourage exploratory play, which supports independence and language development.

Remember, your involvement as a dad or partner matters immensely. Your baby needs you now and throughout their life.
